An immersive experience that paid tribute to the life and work of Frida Kahlo

OVERVIEW
I was thrilled to be part of an incredible project by Tigrelab that celebrates the life and art of Frida Kahlo. As a motion designer, I collaborated with a diverse team of artists who brought their unique skills and talents to the table, including traditional techniques and cutting-edge technology.

PROCESS
Our goal was to create an immersive 40-minute audiovisual experience that paid homage to Frida Kahlo's life and work while staying as true to her style as possible. To achieve this, I was tasked with creating styleframes for various scenes, taking inspiration from Frida's most iconic works. These frames were then projected onto a room filled with screens, accompanied by a totem in the center inspired by traditional Mexican altars adorned with pre-Hispanic objects.
After finalizing the design, my responsibility was to adjust the images and ensure they were optimized for real-time projection. The end result was a stunning audiovisual experience that truly captures the essence of Frida Kahlo's legacy.
Designing the scenes that portrayed the various aspects of Frida Kahlo’s life was a crucial part of my work. I focused on capturing her warrior spirit, her communist beliefs, her powerful quotes, and her surrealist expression. To achieve this, I drew inspiration from some of her most iconic works, such as “El Moises,” “My Dress,” “What the Water Gave Me,” and “Abrazo de Amor.” Using these pieces as a foundation, I created visually striking compositions that seamlessly integrated with the narrative of the project.
I also had the opportunity to create still life compositions that aimed to celebrate Frida Kahlo’s fascination with colorful fruits and traditional vases from her culture. The goal was to evoke a festive atmosphere, using vibrant colors and dynamic arrangements. It was a fun and engaging project that allowed me to showcase my creativity and passion for design.
Throughout the project, we captured behind-the-scenes footage that showcased the creative process, including the team’s brainstorming sessions and the countless hours spent in front of the computer. It was a unique opportunity to document the project’s evolution and the collective effort that went into bringing it to life.
